Nurse Spotlight: Hospice with Sara Hefflefinger

Nurse-Spotlight-SaraHere is the next nurse we’re highlighting for Nurse Week!

Sara Hefflefinger has been working in hospice for about 7 months and believes she’s found her niche in nursing. She works with patients in their homes which she enjoys because she has time to develop a relationship with each one.

Sara was originally drawn to nursing on her 14th birthday when she had an emergency appendectomy. “The nurses were amazing and showed me so much love. I never had any doubt from that point on. It worked really well with my love for the sciences,” said Sara.

Sara has been a nurse for a few years, but now in hospice she’s found she loves the relationships with the patients and families that she is able to form over time. “I have time to develop trust with my patients because I care for them day after day within their homes,” shared Sara. She finds it very rewarding when she is able to help patients find comfort in their final days.

Sara had been commuting to a larger hospital before joining the Pella Regional team. When the hospice position opened up, she clicked on the opening and it’s been a perfect fit ever since she was hired. “I’ve really grown as a nurse in this role and become more independent,” said Sara.
