Nurse Spotlight: Emergency with Sherri Church

Nurse-Spotlight-SherriIt’s Nurse Week and again this year I asked a variety of nurses throughout Pella Regional a few questions. I got a lot of great answers from a lot of great nurses to share with you all and here’s the first – ENJOY!

Sherri has been working at Pella Regional for 17 years. She started while she was in nursing school and then continued as a registered nurse when she got her degree in 2002. “In emergency you don’t know what’s coming through the door. It can go from calm to controlled chaos really quickly and I enjoy that,” she said. She also enjoys caring for the wide variety of patient diagnoses and ages, from infants to those at the end of life.

“I really try to treat each of my patients as if they were a family member,” said Sherri. When her mom was ill and being cared for at a larger hospital, Sherri learned that the way caregivers at Pella Regional treat their patients is truly special. “The people here are great,” said Sherri.

Sherri has stayed so many years at Pella Regional because she feels aligned with the drive of the hospital to be better all the time and lead the region. “You don’t see that everywhere,” shared Sherri. “That and the strong sense of Christian compassion throughout the staff is obvious when making decisions about what equipment and services are needed to help our patients in the best way.”

It’s so fun talking to co-workers who enjoy what they do. Tune in tomorrow for the next Nurse Spotlight!

I’ve been in the ER in Pella a few times and Sherri was always so comforting. She made sure I was looked after and explained everything that was going on. When I see her in town she always has a hugh smile and sometimes a big hug. You have a real “diamond” in your ER.
