Do you have a Heart for Hospice?

Hearts for Hospice Logo-01Hospices nationwide are dependent upon significant help in order to carry out the ministry of end of life care; Hospice of Pella is no exception. While Medicare and other commercial insurance carriers offer hospice benefits, the reimbursement they provide does not cover even a quarter of the cost of care for a patient. The ever-decreasing funding for rural hospitals increases the financial strain on Hospice of Pella and Pella Regional Health Center.

Because of that, each year Pella Regional’s Foundation puts on a fundraiser called Hearts for Hospice to help provide additional funding to support the vital mission of Hospice of Pella. The event is this Saturday, March 5 and we’re excited to host this important event that helps keep Hospice of Pella doing their amazing work.

At Pella Regional Health Center, we are committed to hospice and to providing medical services, emotional support, and spiritual resources for the patients and families who are in the last stages of life. If this is an area you are led to help financially please email Jesse Underwood, Foundation Director, at

If financial help isn’t an option, volunteering at Hospice of Pella may be a good option for you to give back. Many times the role of the Comfort House and home hospice volunteers is behind the scenes, but the full scope of all that the volunteers do is admirable. Whether it’s reading to a patient, weeding the garden or running much needed errands to a hospice patient in their home, the volunteers are an important part of the team.

Hospice of Pella has scheduled the next six-week training class for Tuesday mornings, March 15 through April 19 from 9 – 11:30 am at the Comfort House meeting room. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, March 9. To sign up, or for more information, call Hospice of Pella at 641-620-5054.

End of life at Hospice of Pella at Pella Regional is focused on specialized symptom management and providing for emotional and spiritual needs that arise during the dying process. Do you have a Heart for Hospice?
