Remembering with a Light

Light up a LifeWhen someone dear to you dies, it can feel like a light has gone out in your heart. Holidays can be especially difficult as you go through the hustle and bustle of Christmas activities without that special person. Christmas is a time of laughter, smiles, carols, family, happiness. Do you feel out of place without remembering your loved one?

For me, it’s been over five years since the loss of the person I loved most in this world. Even though time passes, the memories and the loss is still present. But I start the Christmas season by remembering.

Light Up a Life is an annual event, held outside at the Comfort House at 505 Union Street. On Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 6:30 pm, Hospice of Pella and the Chaplains of Pella Regional Health Center will present a short memorial service. It’s a time to remember. And it’s especially meaningful to me to hear the name of my loved one read out loud before a moment of silence. Then the lights on the tree outside the Comfort House light up and shine brightly through the darkness.

I hope you’ll join me at this special event this year.
