Nurse Spotlight: Medical/Surgical Unit with Sarina Barr

nurse-week-sarinaIt’s not Nurse Week anymore, but I have one last nurse to spotlight!

Sarina started at Pella Regional as a new graduate in June of 2014 and enjoys all of the people she works with. She graduated from nursing school in Oklahoma and moved to Iowa to be closer to family and help take care of her grandparents.

Her career goal of becoming a nurse developed over the years. Sarina felt drawn to a profession that would allow her to get to know people on a deeper level. Nursing was a good fit. She enjoys being an advocate for her patients on a physical level, but also from an emotional and spiritual aspect as well.

“I’m a sucker for the elderly patients,” said Sarina. She enjoys talking with them and having them share their stories. As she works on the fast-paced Medical/Surgical Unit, she has used more and more critical thinking nursing skills and has grown to appreciate the variety of patients she cares for.

All of these nurse spotlights are so fun to do as it’s great to hear people who are excited about their work. Plus, sometimes I get to meet people I’ve not met before.
