Nurse Spotlight: Medical/Surgical Unit with Emily Lyng

nurse-week-emilyThis year for nurse week I asked a variety of nurses throughout Pella Regional a few questions. I got a lot of great answers from a lot of great nurses to share with you all and here’s the first – ENJOY!

Emily has worked as a nurse on the Medical/Surgical Unit at Pella Regional since August of 2014 but before that she was a CNA in Long Term Care and Skilled Care and also had a nurse internship. Because she enjoyed those experiences, she wanted to stay at Pella Regional to start her nursing career.

With her summer internship, Emily was able to work with experienced nurses in Obstetrics, Emergency and the Medical/Surgical Unit. She shares that she really enjoyed that and learned a lot because each area is so different. “It helped me connect what I learned in school to actual nursing,” said Emily.

When she was in high school Emily knew she was interested in health care so she took the certified nursing assistant course. She found that she loved nursing and couldn’t see herself doing anything else. On the Medical/Surgical Unit Emily cares for a variety of patients and enjoys having an important impact on people’s lives, especially during difficult times.

It’s so fun talking to co-workers who enjoy what they do. Tune in tomorrow for the next Nurse Spotlight!
