What a Year!

Award for FBIt’s been quite a year. Life is never dull, is it? Looking back on 2012 makes me feel good about everything wonderful going on with my family and friends and life in general. I must be in a good mood today… glass half full and all of that!

It’s also been a great year for Pella Regional Health Center. So good, in fact, we recently received a Hall of Fame award at the Chamber of Commerce meeting. It was certainly appreciated as we’re really excited about everything going on here lately. Here’s a rundown of some of our biggest reasons to celebrate:

Record-breaking 2012

An astonishing 412 babies were born at Pella Regional-40 more babies than in any other year. The busiest month in Obstetrics was July, when 46 babies were delivered. In February, 22 babies were delivered, making it the least busy.

The surgery department operated on our 500th robotic surgery patient and is still one of only 18 hospitals providing robotic surgery in Iowa. Overall surgical volumes also continue to increase, reaching a new record of 4,261 procedures in 2012.

There has also been significant growth in many other areas over the last few years, including medical imaging, respiratory care, inpatient speech therapy, infusion treatments and physical therapy.

Carrying Our Mission to Additional Communities

We’ve also expanded our service area by opening a clinic in Ottumwa in September. Pella Regional’s Medical Clinic in Ottumwa includes family practice and gynecology providers: Dr. John Kanis, family practice, Dr. Betsy Siitari, family practice, Dr. Joseph Coleman, gynecology, Melissa Gingrich, NP, women’s health and Heather Opseth, PA-C, primary care. Other services include prenatal care for the first 32 weeks of pregnancy, basic medical imaging, lab draws and specialty physicians such as orthopedics and urology.

The Medical Clinic in Knoxville expanded to include more and better space to provide patients with the health care needed: family practice, obstetrics, internal medicine, physical therapy, hand therapy, speech therapy and more. The staff has also grown to include Brad Beattie, PA-C, primary care and Scott Barclay, MD, family practice.

Honoring Quality Care and Great Employees

A big milestone for Pella Regional’s family of medical clinics occurred in October when we were recognized as a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Homeby the National Committee for Quality Assurance. This is the highest level of recognition possible.

We were also again selected as one of Iowa’s Top Workplaces, being named to the 4th spot for 2012. More than 70 percent of eligible employees responded to the survey. The Top Workplaces are determined based solely on employee feedback.

It’s exciting to see all of these great things happening where I work. This list, and a lot of other great accomplishments in last year, gets me excited for 2013 and what is coming next!
